DRUG INDUCED OLIGOHYDRAMNIOS

Various drugs have been shown to decrease amniotic fluid volume.

• Prostaglandin synthetase inhibitors e.g. indomethacin (used as an inhibitor of premature uterine contractions and for the treatment of polyhydramnios).
• Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors e.g. captopril and enalapril. Both drugs have been reported to be associated with oligohydramnios, fetal distress, neonatal hypotension and neonatal anuria.
